World Cup Recap
Protesting and ouin-ouin-whining like babies? And refusing to go to practice? How convenient. They wouldn’t want any extra preparation getting in the way of a well thought-out, crippling loss. I hate to sound bitter but D and I feel a bit let down by France’s performance at the World Cup this year. What went on? It’s as if they were trying everything possible to sabotage their chances of winning a match, or perhaps just trying to detract from the fact that they couldn’t win the match even with training. What’s more, every time a member of the team stepped in front of a camera, it was to whine and air dirty laundry. That’s just poor sportsmanship.
I’m disappointed, I’ll admit. I was so hoping for a redeeming performance after that infamous head butt and lamentable loss to Italy fours ago. But I wouldn’t go as far as to use words like honte (shame), or threaten to boycott the jersey and the French national colors, like some fellow Bleus supporters have done. I’m bummed but I have also turned the page. There’s 2014. And in the mean time, I have Rolland Garros and Wimbledon to keep me entertained.
Tiggy, seetihing, in his England shirt. He’s not boycotting les Bleus; he’s just celebrating the World Cup.
Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra
I took Thomas to see the Seattle Youth Symphony a few weeks ago. This was our second – and probably last – concert at Benaroya Hall. Thomas seemed to enjoy Mahler and we lasted through the Allegro-something of Symphony No. 2 but didn’t make it to the intermission. Back in February, when we went to listen to the youth symphony play Verdi, Bernstein and Schubert, we lasted through the intermission.
He’ll thank me when he’s 30.
1 vs 100*
Our little Tiffy turns one this month. A year ago, I was hooked up, drugged up and strapped down in Evergreen Hospital watching Federer and Soderling play at Rolland Garros. I was hoping for a Federer victory on June 1 but Thomas and I will have to wait for Wimbledon.
